Eros Station

Eros

The protomolecule vessel redirected from Earth to Venus by Julie Mao's recovered human will.

Story so far

Eros is an alien-built vessel growing through the mined corridors, transit routes, and life-support architecture of the asteroid station it consumed. Its movement and broadcasts are shaped by the Protomolecule's vast directive, but the system has also retained and built upon the consciousness of Julie Mao, whose infected body became its human seed.

When Miller wakes Julie inside the transformed station, she understands that Eros's dream of racing home would bring the same consumption to Earth. She chooses Venus instead. The course change is not a human victory of force; it is a fragile act of agency from inside the system humanity had meant to destroy.

Appearance

Eros remains a potato-shaped asteroid station whose tunnels are covered in black filaments, glowing blue motes, organic ribs, nautilus spirals, and remade human and animal matter. Its old industrial layout persists beneath the alien overgrowth.

Role

Eros is now the body of a human-alien hybrid intelligence headed for Venus, where neither its purpose nor its fate is known.

Relationships

Julie Mao — Julie Mao recovers enough agency within Eros to redirect the station from Earth toward Venus.
Miller — Miller reaches Julie inside Eros and gives the station a human argument against its apparent course.
Venus — Eros is now accelerating toward Venus as the destination Julie has chosen.
