Rocinante

Roci · MCRN Tachi · Tachi · salvaged MCRN gunboat · gas freighter Rocinante

The battered gunboat being restored at Tycho, close to flight-ready and still far tougher than its civilian repair yard expected.

Story so far

The Rocinante is in a Tycho repair berth after surviving Thoth's defensive fire with holes through its galley, damaged air and maneuvering systems, and a crushed false-freighter shell. Sam's repair crew welds in new bulkhead plates, restores systems, and expects the vessel to be close to perfect within days.

Naomi Nagata reports the work roughly ninety percent complete. The ship could fly sooner if its crew accepts unfinished cosmetic and nonessential work, which matters because James Holden is already refusing to imagine Tycho's safety as permanent. Its extreme resilience has impressed even a yard accustomed to heavy industrial vessels.

Appearance

The Rocinante is a compact Martian military torpedo bomber disguised as a crude civilian gas freighter. Repair crews are replacing scorched hull plates and smoothing the scars of its Thoth battle damage.

Role

The Rocinante is recovering its ability to act independently at the exact moment another Eros mission is becoming unavoidable.

Relationships

Naomi Nagata — Naomi Nagata oversees the nearly completed engineering work that will return the Rocinante to service.
James Holden — Holden treats the repaired ship as the alternative to becoming comfortable dependents on Tycho.
Tycho Station — Tycho's repair crews are restoring the Rocinante after damage that would have destroyed many of the station's own ships.
