Marius

Marius au Raa

Romulus's spidery Quaestor, no warrior, who loses an ear in the coup and is bound with his deposed father.

Story so far

Marius au Raa, the Rim's cold Quaestor, stands with his father Romulus against Dido's coup, hurling scorn at his rebel mother even as he proves hopelessly unwarlike. He clumsily kills one Peerless by luck before Bellerephon slashes off his right ear and nearly takes his eye, flesh flapping open, leaving him reeling 'like a child struck by a father.' His brother Diomedes—for all their mutual venom—angles to protect him in the melee. When Romulus surrenders to spare Raa blood, Marius is bound and deposed alongside his father, the loyal fiend brought low with the falling regime.

Appearance

An ugly, spindly Gold in his mid-twenties, 'a spider smuggled into human flesh,' overgrown forehead and jaw, dark goatee, anemic skinned-rabbit skin with brown neck-splotches and mismatched eyes; now missing his right ear, blood sheeting down his neck.

Role

The Rim's Quaestor; Romulus's loyal, unwarlike son, wounded and bound when the coup deposes his father.

Romulus — His father the Sovereign, at whose side he fights and is bound when the regime falls.
Bellerephon — His cousin, who slashes off his ear in the coup's melee.
