Dido

Dido au Raa · Dido of Numidae · Protector of Io

The Rim's Protector, widowed and hollowed by grief, who receives Lysander's pledge and smiles at the making of a Lune ally for her war.

Story so far

Dido au Raa gives her condemned husband Romulus a final kiss on the frozen dune—'the young Moon Lord who burned a city for a girl of the pearl shore'—and watches him walk to his death, standing without blinking as frost crusts her lashes. Afterward, hollowed and bled of pride, an 'island of regret,' she slumps by a window over the sulfur plain and grieves the paragon she lost. When Lysander intrudes to offer condolences and then declares he wishes to join her war, she scorns him—a scarless king without a kingdom, raised on theory in a palace.

But when he answers that he is no king but an Iron Gold, sharing her birthright to shepherd and unite Gold, and offers to sail to the Core to broker an alliance against the Reaper, her dour grieving face slowly curls into a smile: she has found her Lune ally, and her war a new and dangerous edge.

Appearance

A mature Gold woman with a strident masculine face, sharp cheekbones, dusky skin and graying dark hair; slumped and hollow-eyed with grief, then sharpening into a cold, calculating smile.
