Preservation's leader, home and safe, who offers Murderbot a home, options, and time without ownership.
Rescued and home, Dr. Mensah shepherds Murderbot into Preservation under a cover story—an injured augmented refugee—so that no one learns it is a SecUnit and no one can claim it. She gives it quarters, a station hotel with a big display surface, and above all patience, apologizing again for once assuming it would need heavy assistance to live among humans. Reunited with her large family and her small daughter—who meets Murderbot and calls it her mother's 'pet security consultant'—Mensah at last talks with Murderbot about its future.
Refusing to press, she lays out genuine options: a hiring offer from GoodNightLander Independent that treats its citizenship as immaterial, and Dr. Bharadwaj's proposal to make its account a documentary for the construct-citizenship movement. She gently rejects its 'I just want to watch media' deflection, noting it would already be off doing that if it were true, and assures it that it has friends and a place here whatever it decides.
An experienced adult woman with dark brown skin and very short light-brown hair, fine lines at her eyes, back in her own clothes and setting, warm and composed at home on Preservation.
Preservation's leader and Murderbot's protector; the person who offers it belonging without ownership.
