The independent refugee-founded polity that shelters Murderbot as a legal refugee and debates construct citizenship.
The Preservation Alliance, the non-corporate polity Dr. Mensah leads, is revealed in full in book four's close. Its people were refugees from a failed colony world, carried through nearly two hundred years of suspension aboard the giant ship that now forms Preservation Transit Station; on arrival they allied with two other refugee-settled systems and pointedly refused the Corporation Rim's help, preserving their independence. It has no internal currency economy, running on barter for citizens and hard currency for travelers.
Preservation drove the effort to free Mensah, its diplomatic corps pressuring the Company and its team (Pin-Lee, Ratthi, Gurathin) risking themselves at TranRollinHyfa. It shelters Murderbot under the legal status of a refugee—better than 'equipment' or 'deadly weapon,' though still short of full personhood—and a small but growing movement, championed by Bharadwaj, presses to win full citizenship for constructs and high-level bots.
A polity of three allied refugee-settled systems, marked by an unusually trusting, informal culture and a barter economy.
Mensah's home polity; Murderbot's refuge and the arena of the construct-citizenship question.
