Marck was Shirly’s husband and a Mechanical shift leader who died during the retreat, a loss still shaping those who loved him.
Born in the down deep, Marck studied under Walker and was shadowing in Electrical when Juliette arrived. He said he knew her like a sister and remembered unknowingly rewinding the same pump ten times during her initiation. A mechanic and oilman, he helped install the generator’s new mounts and embraced his wife Shirly after the successful restart, though their work normally put them on opposite shifts.
Convinced that improved suits offered people a chance outside, Marck accused IT of deliberately sending cleaners to die. He joined the armed march as Knox’s shift leader. When Shirly stayed to restore the farmers’ power, he took her pack and gave her his multi-tool. The attack left him temporarily deaf and wounded in the arm. He covered the retreat, searched for Shirly and tried to help a wounded Supply worker before another blast drove the survivors downward.
Reunited with Shirly at Supply, Marck confirmed that Knox, McLain and others had died. She helped him reach Mechanical despite his blood loss. He went back up to shoot at men preventing refugees from entering, then lost his rifle and was shot in the back while running for safety. Unable to feel his legs, he told Shirly to go and that he loved her as she was pulled through the barricade. He died outside it. A couple of months later, Shirly is still grieving, and Juliette holds herself responsible for his loss.
Marck is a deceased Mechanical worker and uprising fighter whose death left Shirly widowed and Juliette burdened with guilt.
