Szgany

the gipsies · the Gypsies

Dracula's armed Szgany race his coffin toward the castle and form a ring of knives against the hunters at sunset.

Story so far

The Szgany who once packed and removed Dracula's earth boxes now receive the last box near home and drive it toward Castle Dracula on a leiter-wagon. They flog their horses against time, understanding that sunset will restore their master's active power.

When the hunters surround the cart, the Szgany form a disciplined ring with flashing knives. Rifles hold most at bay, but they mortally wound Quincey Morris before Jonathan and Quincey break through to the box. Dracula's destruction ends their resistance, and they flee.

Appearance

A fast-moving band of robust, colorfully dressed Carpathian men on horseback and wagon, armed with long knives and driving hard through snow.

Role

The Szgany are Dracula's final human shield and transport crew, bringing supernatural cargo within moments of safety at the cost of open battle.

Relationships
