The dreaded skin-and-bone sorcerers who ride the named trains — a preview of the ninth floor's mass-combat horror.
War Mages are a class of sorcerer tied to the brutal mass combat of the ninth floor, where their spells (like 'You're Not Done Yet') turn fallen soldiers into Flesher skin-minions and reanimated Symbiotes. On the Iron Tangle, one War Mage rides the rear of each named train, farming boarding crawlers for skin and bone — which is why nobody who rode the named lines ever returned with information. Carl meets and kills Dismember-the-War-Mage aboard the Dismemberment-Limited, and the recap shows others: an orc-looking War Mage with the same silver hair laughing amid drill-clawed crabs, and another suffocating crawlers.
Each attacks differently, marking the named trains as lethal, War-Mage-guarded gauntlets and a grim foreshadow of the ninth floor.
Varied humanoids (elf-like, orc-like) sharing a signature of long silver hair; command hordes of flayed-skin minions.
