Shrinking Wand

the shrinking wand · the magic wand · the stick

One charge left, no effect on living things, and it once killed a whole trainload of people by making the train smaller.

Story so far

Zhang's wand shrinks things. It does not work on living things, but it works on everything they wear or ride, and its owner has used that loophole twice: once to shrink a boss's collar until it choked him to death, and once to stop a train that was about to run his group down. That second use shrank the whole train and killed everyone aboard, jumped Zhang six levels, and paid a boss box and a multi-kill box.

The effect is controllable — it starts shrinking on the zap and keeps going until turned off, otherwise stopping on its own at about the size of a button — and it lasts five minutes. Crucially, mass is unaffected: whatever it shrinks stays exactly as heavy as before.

With one charge remaining and saved for an emergency, Zhang spends it on The Def Leppard Cart, holding it small for the four and a half harrowing minutes it takes to roll a van-weight cart through station 36's twisting hallway. The cart pops back to full size in the middle of the chamber like a balloon being inflated.

Appearance

A plain short stick, indistinguishable from firewood.

Role

A single-charge shrinking artifact, and the reason the station 36 plan happened at all.

Relationships
