The Yellow Line's loop-trapped dwarf conductor — a hard-drinking font of train lore who dies in a fire-ant trap.
Vernon is the Yellow Line's train conductor, a wrinkled, hard-drinking level-32 dwarf who holds court in car five's employee break room. Won over by Princess-Donut's charm, he becomes the party's single richest source of Iron Tangle lore. He explains the train's eerie loop: he blacks out at station 435 and 'comes to' back at the station-10 yard, the train (and everything aboard it from his first day) resetting — a quirk he exploits by pocketing copies of his gold and a drawing of his wife each run, saving toward going home.
Yet he doesn't heal or un-hunger across resets, so it isn't a true time loop. He details the mysterious locked engine car (its unseen human-voiced engineer never emerges except at a derailment), the monsters that disembark every five stops, and the colored-line connections at each transfer station — feeding a map to Katia-Grim and Mordecai. He dies horribly when Princess-Donut's reward suitcase proves a fire-ant trap that immolates car five, his final screams haunting Carl.
A stout, wrinkled dwarf in a rumpled conductor's uniform, perpetually leaning into a drink; carries a well-worn drawing of his wife and a hoard of looped gold.
An invaluable, doomed NPC informant whose lore cracks open the Iron Tangle's rules.
