Thorsson

The cadaverous Martian intelligence handler who tries to keep Bobbie on staff — and is coldly walked out on.

Story so far

After Bobbie Draper's summit outburst, Thorsson summons her to his notably small delegation office and, crediting the counselor Martens with framing it as trauma, declares he will keep her on staff to "repair the damage" rather than send her home. Bobbie cuts through his mummified warmth with a blunt "Why am I here?", refusing to serve as a showpiece; when he snaps that she'll do exactly what he says, when he says it, she simply says she has to go and walks out before he can get the last word. Within the hour she has taken Avasarala's job, and Avasarala transfers her out of his command with a single call — leaving Thorsson outmaneuvered and Bobbie gone.

Appearance

A very tall, gaunt man in a naval-intelligence uniform, narrow hatchet-shaped face with the skull pressing through tight skin, glittering narrowed eyes, and a stiff mirthless almost-smile at odds with his deep, mellow voice.

Role

Martian intelligence handler who loses control of Bobbie to Avasarala.

Relationships

Bobbie Draper — His witness and subordinate, who defies and abandons him rather than be his showpiece.
Avasarala — The UN broker who poaches Bobbie out from under his command.
