Cotyar

The security chief arms and seals Bobbie into her armor, keeps the crew from taking Avasarala hostage, and lets slip a shy admiration.

Story so far

Cotyar runs the ground support for Bobbie Draper's seizure of the Guanshiyin. He has his people wrestle her hundred-kilo Goliath III armor into Avasarala's room, admires the suit ("I can't believe they let you keep it"), and helps her wire and seal it — turning beet-red when she strips to her bodysuit, then, married but "not blind," quietly telling her she is lovely. He grasps the tactical logic: with the ship's hull behind her, no shipboard weapon can hole Bobbie's armor without holing the ship, so she goes in alone while his job is to prevent the obvious counter — the crew grabbing Avasarala as a hostage.

He serves as legal witness to Avasarala's declaration that the vessel is in violation, briefs his men, and relays the moment of victory to Avasarala. Calm, dry, and endlessly deferential ("As you say"), he is the steady hand beneath the coup.

Appearance

A pleasant-looking gray-haired man of Kurdish descent with a teacherly air; his light brown neck flushing beet-red at Bobbie's undress, quick to a humorless competent smile.

Role

Avasarala's security chief who enables and safeguards Bobbie's takeover of the yacht.

Relationships

Avasarala — His principal, whom he shields from being taken hostage during the seizure.
