character

Shaddid

Captain Shaddid

Ceres's hard-edged security chief arrests Marco's son and insists that station law cannot become a favor for the powerful.

Story so far

Shaddid is the captain responsible for keeping Ceres's six million residents from killing too many of one another. When Filip Inaros shoots one of her officers outside a nightclub, she takes him into custody, isolates him under an automated monitor, and tells Anderson Dawes that other guards would happily see the boy disappear.

She does not hide her contempt for Filip, but her larger point is institutional: she cannot do her job if people can shoot station security and escape the consequences. Dawes arranges a political release to Marco while permanently banishing Filip from Ceres.

Appearance

A station security captain seen at her desk and in an office, with a blunt, disciplined manner; no detailed physical description is supplied.

Role

Shaddid embodies the civic order that Marco's personal power threatens to override.

Relationships

[[Anderson Dawes]] — She demands that the governor handle diplomacy without preventing her from enforcing security.
[[Filip Inaros]] — She arrests and monitors him after he shoots her officer.
[[Ceres Station]] — She is charged with protecting its crowded population and its law.
