Eris's magic poker-chip coin whose four faces are catastrophic fates for Carl — and whose grabbed 'fifth side' makes them all random.
Eris's five-sided coin is a chaos artifact the Goddess of Chaos conjures to gamble Carl's fate before the Ascendent is chosen. Poker-chip sized, it shows her laughing face and a swirl in base form, then reveals four catastrophic outcomes, one of which must come to pass: Princess Donut dies ('RIP'); Carl loses his feet ('Carl de-FEET-ed'); most of his friends die; or Carl hangs upside-down by one foot from a tree, ringed with player-killer skulls, captioned 'I become what they accuse me of.' Eris has Robot Uzi Jesus flip it so she can't be accused of rigging it — but Carl snatches it from the air, burning his hand, and thereby 'picks the fifth side': pure randomness, meaning any, all, or none of the four fates may occur. The coin dissolves into a slow-spinning swirl tattoo on his palm, a chaos-brand even the AI can't identify.
