Gelded Choirboy

the Choirboy scroll · the singing scroll

A one-use scroll that gifts a beautiful, helium-squeaky high singing voice — the name, Mordecai swears, is not literal.

Story so far

Gelded Choirboy is a single-use scroll Carl reads moments before his stage debut, lifting his deep speaking voice into a register he could never otherwise reach so he can hit the high notes of A-ha's 'Take on Me.' Mordecai insists the spell's name is not literal; its side effect is a comically squeaky, sucked-a-helium-balloon quality Carl finds mortifying. Paired with Mordecai's compounded singing potions — Honeyed (voice control), Yo-Yo Ma'd (perfect pitch), and Dio'd (sustained notes) — the scroll lets Carl fill his performance gauge into the flaming green and win permanent entry to the Stage Performance Guild.

Appearance

An ordinary readable scroll; its effect turns the reader's voice squeaky and impossibly high yet 'beautiful.'

Role

The consumable scroll that makes Carl's high-register singing possible during the guild entrance exam.

Relationships

Carl — Reads it at the last second to reach 'Take on Me's high notes, hating his resulting squeaky voice.
Mordecai — Supplies it alongside compounded singing potions and swears the name isn't literal.
