Hired Mercenary

inherited mercenary contract

System mechanic transferring prepaid mercenary contracts to whoever defeats their employer, floor-long.

Story so far

Toyotomi's examine text spells out the rule: he is a hired mercenary, the fee has already been paid in advance, and the contract extends to the end of this floor or the mercenary's death. Carl inherited the contract by defeating the Prism.

In practice the mechanic hands Carl a small windfall of NPC soldiers, each acquiring a Princess Posse banner and a rank — Toyotomi is listed as a Sergeant. Carl distributes them by hand: Toyotomi to Shanty Town under Li Jun, the Madness mercenary Lockjaw to the throne room as a political tripwire, and the The Dream mercenary simply released to walk home.

Role

The rule that converts a defeated warlord's paid guards into Carl's redeployable manpower.

Relationships

Toyotomi — Contract inherited by Carl on the Prism's defeat.
