Ruined saccathian owner of the Squirties waystation, whose worst day ends with Eris walking through the door.
Zander is a saccathian who sank his life savings into leasing Squirties, a refueling platform just outside the main tunnel access route to the Earth system - a waystation his mother designed the logo for. The embargo has killed him: nothing comes through the tunnel gate, he has not had a refueling customer in days, not even reporters, and between the threat of war and whatever happened to the Mantis system, nobody will come near the area. He owes twenty-five thousand credits a month to Dictum and cannot pay, and expects to be indentured.
He vents all of this to a talking Uzi Jesus action figure while pulling unsellable Veriluxx toys off the shelf, and the toy agrees that he is probably fucked. Then a customer he never saw dock appears behind him: a tall, elf-like woman with naga-like eyes, whom Zander cheerfully mistakes for a costumed fan of Nami. He asks whether it is a costume or surgery. It is Eris, goddess of chaos, and she offers to show him a costume - snapping her fingers so that every tentacle on his face goes rigid and begins spewing a different liquid, some of it burning.
A saccathian with facial tentacles that vent air when he sighs, wearing a uniform shirt printed with the Squirties logo.
The bankrupt waystation owner whose ordinary ruin becomes the book's final casualty.
