The centerpiece of Houston's surgical theater, on which he promises Carl and Donut a thousand hours of agony.
After Carl mentions Nurse Yugoslav aloud in front of the quorum, Architect Houston sends a private warlord message: if Carl ever mentions his mother out loud again, he and Princess Donut "will spend the last thousand hours of your existence upon the amplification table in my surgical theater. This is a promise."
The name implies the table's function — amplifying sensation or suffering rather than healing — and it is the clearest window in the chapter into what The Madness and its Architect actually are. Carl answers "Oh, fuck off," and Houston replies that Carl is in mortal danger at this very moment and doesn't even realize it.
