character

Quasar

Buddy Boy's lawyer

Carl's volunteered attorney, who delivers the bad exit deals and the news about Donut's lawyer.

Story so far

Quasar is the small alien attorney conscripted as a volunteered lawyer for the season, tasked with negotiating exit deals for Carl and two other crawlers. He meets Carl in a doorless cubicle in the Zero Zone, a cloud of pixelated smoke over his head, wearing a tie printed with a waving Mongo in the hope of being assigned Princess Donut as well. He thanks Carl on behalf of the Syndicate Intergalactic Bar Association: roughly twenty thousand crawlers reached the tenth floor, which means work for his colleagues and a long night at the attorney bar for him.

He is blunt that every offered deal is garbage precisely because so many survived - fifty seasons undead, a Desperado Club bomber's guild slot, and a joint replacement contract for Chaco - and says only fear of the The AI keeps him from telling them all to go to hell. He tells Carl what The Eleventh Floor is at the cost of a season, notes that Carl has gone strange on him, and admits he does not know what Carl is going through. His last piece of business is a warning: Donut's assigned lawyer, Princess Chandra, is Carl's new wife, and they need to talk about her.
