Mantis God

God · The Mantis Deity

The deity sward mantises beg forgiveness from at death for not having sacrificed enough for the colony.

Story so far

Sward Mantis faith centers on a God to whom a dying mantis owes an accounting. The Inevitable Ruin, as taught by The Mantis Queen, ends in ruminating on how one helped the Mantis Colony and begging God's forgiveness for not sacrificing enough — a creed in which insufficiency is assumed rather than judged.

Everly carries Everly's Prayer Mat with its invisible etched words through the entire crawl, one of the two things she counts as company, so the faith outlasted her exile even when the colony did not. In her actual final minutes she does not pray; she thinks about the mantises she abandoned.
