character

Drakea

Dead friend who hated the naga, addressed directly in Carl's closing cookbook note about the day's work.

Story so far

Carl closes the chapter with a note added to the 25th edition addressed to Drakea, who is dead. He hasn't forgotten how much she hated the naga, and he hopes that if there is a veil — as he knows she believed — she watched the destruction of the Blood Sultanate from the other side.

He isn't sure what the day's implications are for the naga as a people, but he did what he could. He tells her he knows it isn't enough, not yet, but he hopes she would be proud of what happened. Then, alone on the page in a way he never is in front of the others, he admits it is getting harder every day to keep himself from drowning.

Role

The dead friend whose hatred of the naga gives Carl's victory its private meaning.

Relationships
