Story so far
The silos’ outside views showed lifeless brown hills under gray skies. Holston saw greenery and a blue sky through his helmet, but outside its display lay brown grass and gray skies, and toxins were killing him. Juliette described cleaners’ bodies on the hillside and found more barren ground beyond it, where circular hollows and hills repeated across the landscape. Fifty evenly spaced silo depressions extended toward the horizon.
The destruction was not necessarily worldwide. Erskine claimed the world was being reset to erase humanity and its experiments, while a drone later revealed vivid green land beyond the last silo hills. Tiny airborne machines had consumed the old convention’s structures. Charlotte subsequently reported that the world beyond the silos’ damaged region still existed.
Beyond the dust, living grasses, insects, birds, and white clouds are now visible. Vegetation dies at the foot of the barrier, whose dark clouds form a giant dome centered on the silos. A forest lies beyond an isolated ringed hill. One group emerging from the dust carries a body in a limp suit, so reaching the living landscape has not meant an unscathed passage for everyone.
