Hobgoblin Disco Ball

the disco ball

An invisibility-infused smoke curtain that fills a room with pulsing, blinding technicolor smoke — even the thrower goes blind.

Story so far

The Hobgoblin Disco Ball is an infused tossable Carl crafts on his sapper's table (a recipe lifted from the Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook), soaking a red Hobgoblin smoke curtain in an invisibility potion to reach Infusion skill level 3. Classed a 'magically-infused deflagrating tossable,' it produces heavy, multi-hued, photosensitive and frequency-responsive smoke that conceals all movement and 'bounces to the beat' — but, unlike a normal smoke curtain, it blinds the thrower too, so it's suicidal to drop at one's own feet. Infusing makes it inherently unstable (status 25, 'Molly not included'), which is why Carl avoids infusing live explosives until his skill rises.

Its debut is an accident: the Veriluxx Donut toy knocks one off the table and Carl steps on it, flooding the crafting room with rainbow smoke and enraging Mordecai.

Appearance

A round smoke-curtain sphere, normally red, now shimmering with multi-colored opalescence; when triggered it erupts into a pulsing rainbow smoke storm.

Role

Carl's flashy infused smoke tossable — concealment and disorientation, at the cost of blinding its user.

Relationships

Carl — Its inventor, who reaches Infusion level 3 crafting it and accidentally sets one off.
Dungeon Anarchist's CookbookBk 2 — The tome whose recipe he secretly copies to make it.
Mordecai — The mentor whose crafting work the accidental blast ruins.
