Frenzied Gerbil

gerbils

Level-11 suicide rodents that burrow through flesh — and the fixation of the AI's cruel tantrum against Carl.

Story so far

Frenzied Gerbils are Level 11 mobs loaded inside the gnomes' Live Ammo Balls: small, furious rodents that launch themselves through the air, latch on, and burrow straight through flesh to eat their way out the other side. Individually weak, they become a nightmare in numbers. After the Wasteland falls, thousands of the gerbils — freed from countless ammo balls that survived the crash — regroup and swarm Hump Town, overwhelming the camel defenders (and igniting into gnashing fireballs when they pass through Princess Donut's Wall of Fire).

Carl grasps the truth: this isn't just wreckage, it's a punishment. The System AI — recalling how much it adored Carl stomping the gerbil-boss Ralph on the second floor (which had preceded the prize room where they found Mongo) — is generating gerbils endlessly to force Carl to kill one *by stomping it underfoot*. Only when Carl finally, disgustedly stomps a gerbil does the wave stop.

Appearance

Small, fist-sized frenzied rodents with unnaturally wide, physics-defying jaws that can engulf a whole fist.

Role

The AI's obsession-weaponized swarm mob — a lethal tantrum demanding Carl stomp one underfoot.

Relationships

Live Ammo Ball — The gnomish shells that carry them, spilling thousands after the crash.
System AI — Which floods the town with them to force a nostalgic stomp-kill from Carl.
Carl — Who must finally squish one underfoot to end the punishing wave.
Mongo — The pet found in a prize room after Carl's original gerbil-boss (Ralph) kill.
