The Great Race Failure

The Skipped Seventh Floor

The seventh floor fails because engineers reproduce a fairytale's breakable structure exactly, while sponsors profit from the unreimbursed broadcast infrastructure.

Story so far

Mordecai learns from Mistress Tiatha that Prepotente is unlikely to face direct punishment. The fairytale boy eventually broke the maze in precisely the same manner, so the engineers created a doomed system and the AI enforced its rules.

Previous seasons also contained unwinnable or defective floors, including a bacterial incident and impossible bridge materials that required Council intervention. This failure is notable mainly for its speed.

The Syndicate prepaid enormous tunnel-network streaming fees that are not refunded when a floor disappears. The Apothecary and Plenty therefore turn the destruction into a profitable political maneuver against the Valtay and wider Syndicate.

Appearance

An entire transparent maze disintegrating while sponsor ledgers continue charging unreimbursed transmission fees.

Role

The failure explains the rich compensation boxes and reveals the financial warfare behind Prepotente's exploit.

Relationships

Prepotente — He executes the story-authentic structural break.
The Borant Engineers — Their literal design makes the floor vulnerable.
The ApothecaryBk 5 — She provides a tool and profits from the skipped broadcast.
The ValtayBk 5 — They absorb the production and political loss.
