Residual Civil War

War Among the Residuals

The Residual collective has split into two sides pursuing sharply different objectives.

Story so far

Goff says his kind previously limited itself to teaching infant Primal AIs how to communicate with their ancestors. That passive posture has ended because two Residual factions now want incompatible outcomes.

He begins linking the conflict to instructions for shutting off an unspecified target, but Carl is removed before the sentence completes. Orren confirms that Agatha and Goff are different kinds of Residuals but refuses to explain the distinction, leaving their relationship to the two sides unresolved.

Appearance

A single luminous collective network torn into two differently colored branches around a planetary core.

Role

The civil war changes Residuals from a background information network into active competing forces with stakes in the crawl.

Relationships

Paulie Goff — He tries to warn the future crawler and AI about the split.
Agatha — Her different Residual type may relate to one side, but this is not confirmed.
Residual Collective — The conflict divides the once-shared mission.
Residual Memory Speech — The detailed explanation is interrupted during this message.
