Duendes

Duende

Duendes are common level-20, foot-tall humanoid monsters whose chaotic attacks on replayed travelers and obsession with shoes cause traffic crashes throughout Havana.

Story so far

Carl's group finds at least a hundred duendes swarming a pile of wrecked cars. They resemble tiny angry men in rags and have sharp teeth but none of the magical attacks or nail clippers suggested by the Book of Lore's portrait.

Duendes leap through intangible riders to seize their physical shoes, knocking bicycles and mopeds over in the process. Their behavior likely caused many of the nearby traffic collisions.

Once combat begins, they charge without coordination and even fight one another for access to the crawlers. The combined squads and Mongo kill them easily, turning the swarm into fuel for Carl's soul patch and a source of utility-card drops.

Appearance

Foot-tall hairy gnome-like men in rags with sharp teeth, often wrestling inside stolen shoes.

Role

Duendes are weak common mobs, environmental saboteurs, soul fuel, and a source of basic utility cards.

Relationships

Earth Memory Collision Cascade — Their attacks on bicycles and mopeds help trigger crashes.
Carl — Their deaths fill his first soul-essence charge.
Mongo — He gleefully tears through and eats them.
