Princess Chonkalot

Donut's grandmother

Donut's grandmother, surviving as a badly drawn tattoo on the lower back of the woman who abandoned them.

Story so far

Princess Chonkalot never appears alive in the crawl — she belongs to the show-cat dynasty Princess Donut was bred out of, and to the life Beatrice built around ribbons and competition. Her only presence here is ink: when Beatrice turns in her backless red gown, Carl sees the poorly-drawn tattoo of Princess Chonkalot, Donut's grandmother, riding on her lower back, exposed and looking out of place above a dress cut to the top of her buttocks.

The detail lands hardest against what Donut says minutes later — that Bea had a bunch of cats growing up, and that maybe Donut was never more than a way to win more ribbons than her mother. Chonkalot is the proof of that lineage, a champion permanently marked on the skin of a woman who was prepared to give her granddaughter away.

Appearance

Rendered only as a poorly-drawn tattoo of a cat on Beatrice's lower back; as a show cat she is remembered as Donut's grandmother and part of a ribbon-winning line.

Role

Princess Donut's grandmother and a champion of Beatrice's show-cat line, present only as a tattoo.

Relationships

Princess Donut — Her granddaughter, whose whole existence was engineered inside the same ribbon-chasing pedigree.
Beatrice — Wears her likeness tattooed on her lower back — a permanent souvenir of the cats she competed with.
