The Personal Space

the personal area · the space

A cramped underground home that gains barn doors, a guild exit and better beds in one afternoon.

Story so far

Almost the entire chapter happens inside the Personal Space. Carl and Princess Donut wake there in time for the Recap Episode; Mordecai watches it with them and comments on mushrooms; Katia pokes her head in asking whether Samantha has stopped screaming. The AI's long announcement interrupts them there, and it is there that Carl opens his Platinum Fan Box on the counter. The Sledge sits at that same counter staring into space while Carl builds a biscuit sandwich from the food box.

Joining Safehome Yolanda transforms the room. A new door appears to the left of the outside exit, labelled Guild Common Area. Multiple upgrades unlock at once — Mordecai warns twice not to place anything until Katia has actually left the party, and is ignored: a pair of barn doors materialises beside the new exit as a pet stable for Mongo, and the beds upgrade themselves to the The Instacot 60. Princess Donut also uses it to shower herself and Mongo before the guild purchase.

It is also, notably, not soundproof from the outside world. A distant explosion rattles the whole space, then a second from several streets over, and Clint Smashgrab's voice comes muffled through the door telling them the town is under attack.

Appearance

A cramped underground stone dwelling: kitchen counter, beds, a Frogger machine the rock monsters have grown bored of, a door to Point Mongo and now two new doors beside it.

Role

Carl and Princess Donut's home beneath Point Mongo, and the room where every development of the chapter arrives.

Relationships

Safehome Yolanda — Guild membership adds a common-area door and unlocks the upgrades that install themselves.
Mordecai — Manages it, warns against premature upgrades, and stands to lose his own space without another purchase.
The Guild Common Area — Now reachable through a new labelled door to the left of the outside exit.
