National Convention

The 2052 convention becomes an evacuation emergency as flashes and air-raid sirens follow the anthem and jet flyover.

Story so far

Paul Thurman asks Donald and Helen to attend the National Convention years in advance, and Donald reports that it will be held in Atlanta. Preparations for the 2052 gathering place fifty state flags over fifty depressions at the nuclear containment facility, with farmers’ markets and live animals.

The convention draws unprecedented crowds to lower Fulton County. A woman is expected to win the presidential nomination, and the national anthem is scheduled for noon.

The gathering spreads across fifty bowls holding state groups, people, goods, and livestock. A jet flyover coincides with the end of the anthem. Flashes appear and air-raid sirens sound over the speakers; after the blasts, volunteers guide people into tents.
