Silo One’s communications room links its operators to other silos, masks their voices, and is now cleared for Donald’s private call.
The room’s array of fifty numbered headset receptacles provides communications with other silos. During Silo Twelve’s collapse, four men crowded a station normally staffed by one operator. It later handled Paul Thurman’s call to Eighteen and displayed the shadow’s physiological responses during questioning.
During the escaped-cleaner crisis, a crowded room screened footage of a suited person moving away from an outside camera. The system also provides access to Eighteen’s camera feeds. Voice-masking software makes operators sound alike so silo heads cannot recognize changes of personnel between shifts. Donald Keene has now ordered the staff out, temporarily leaving himself alone in the room.
