The Uprising

Great Uprising

The Great Uprising is associated with erased history and server destruction; Mission’s events take place in its year.

Story so far

Jahns places the uprising a century and a half before Holston’s confinement. Children’s books were the only books to survive, though some artifacts endured the accompanying purge. The silo servers were completely wiped. Allison says a report listing earlier revolts was deleted and theorizes that erasing the servers ended a pattern of generational rebellion. The uprising shaped the childhoods of Holston and Allison and those of their parents and grandparents.

Allison claims that doubt about the outside world drove the uprisings and that the ban on expressing a wish to leave exists because that desire started them. Deagan Knox later wonders whether the earlier revolt felt as necessary to its participants as his own revolution does to him. Bernard Holland claims repairs and efforts to make people forget followed it. The events involving Mission Jones in Silo Eighteen take place in the year of the Great Uprising.

Role

A defining uprising tied to the loss of records and contested explanations of why people revolt.
