The Jackal

Adrius au Augustus · Adrius · Lucian

The ArchGovernor's son and the Institute's would-be victor, run down by his own twin sister and delivered bound and naked to the Reaper.

Story so far

For all his cunning and his father's rigging, the Jackal loses. His own twin sister Mustang — the one loyalty he could not corrupt — hunts him through the mountains and delivers him to Darrow bound, gagged, and naked, his standard with him, utterly disarmed. The maimed monster who ate his own House, took Sevro's eye, and murdered Pax is beaten at last, and Darrow spares even the Pluto students the final humiliation.

His father Augustus refuses to call him by the name Jackal — the men of House Augustus are lions, not carrion-eaters — and privately judges his seed less strong than his dead eldest son's. Adrius survives, defeated but alive, a monster loosed back into the wider world beyond the game.

Appearance

A slight, thin young Gold with plainly clipped blond hair and a deceptively mild face, right hand a cauterized stump; here stripped bound and naked in defeat.

Role

Adrius au Augustus, the defeated Jackal, captured by his own sister and spared.

Relationships

mustang — His twin, who runs him down and delivers him bound to the Reaper.
Darrow — The rival who defeats and captures him, winning the game.
nero-au-augustus — His father, who helped rig his path yet judges him the weaker child.
