Lilath

The Jackal's burned, teeth-braided emissary from House Pluto, who delivers a death-mark on the Reaper.

Story so far

Lilath comes out of the woods as an emissary from the Jackal of House Pluto, and she chills Darrow as no soldier has. Once a moonfaced girl who smiled, she is now drawn, newly burned and pocked, two fingers gone and seared shut by ion weapons, her braids laced with human teeth so her hair clatters when she moves — a cold, inhuman thing, like a fish from an underground river. She refuses to speak with the Reaper, addressing only Cassius: her master wants Darrow, alive or dead, and offers fifty ionBlades for him, tossing over two as proof and a small pouch to sway the decision.

When both boys refuse her, she pronounces the Jackal's mark — the Reaper will be dead before winter, by one hand or another — and rides away without another word.
