Major Overstreet

Overstreet · Head of Medina security · Marine commander on Medina · Prospective lieutenant colonel

Overstreet certifies the Typhoon's transit, acknowledges the underground trounced him, then invokes Trejo's standing orders when Singh commands an indiscriminate cull.

Story so far

Overstreet audits the five-and-three-quarter-hour uprising without softening its success. The resistance spent nearly all its local capital to escape, leaving Medina with fewer insurgents but scattering the main body across the colonies and taking the Gathering Storm. He certifies the station and gate traffic as safe enough for the Eye of the Typhoon, while emphasizing that perfect knowledge no longer exists.

When Singh orders a white list followed by a cull of everyone not proven loyal, Overstreet goes still. He has standing instructions from Tanaka, derived through Anton Trejo from Duarte's permanent-rule doctrine: imperial officers must prevent a governor's wounded pride from creating enemies for generations. Overstreet draws his gun and tells Singh that removing the highest official to protect powerless citizens will sow trust, discipline the incoming Governor Song, and define Laconia's standard. He admits private contempt for Medina's people but treats belief as another order an imperial officer obeys.

Appearance

A short, broad, exceptionally pale shaved-headed Marine with ice-blue eyes and enormous hands, standing calm and solid in uniform with a pistol held in his right hand.

Role

Overstreet is the empire's internal check, enforcing permanent-conquest doctrine against his own governor despite personal agreement with Singh's contempt.

Relationships

Santiago Singh — He acknowledges Santiago Singh's failure, refuses the cull, and prepares to make the governor rather than Medina's civilians the restorative example.

Aliana Tanaka — Aliana Tanaka delivered the safeguard when Overstreet accepted Medina security, preserving the mentor's judgment after her dismissal.
