Rocinante

Roci · Independent gunship · Aging Martian warrior · Bobbie's former ship · Ceres-registered military vessel · Old Martian gunship · Hidden gunship

The Rocinante hides beneath floating vines in a Freehold valley, functioning sideways under gravity as Naomi's home, workshop, power source, and latent defense.

Story so far

The Rocinante reaches Freehold and lands on its belly beside a glacier-fed creek in a narrow mountain valley. Floating local vines form a moving canopy fifteen meters above the hull, helping conceal it from orbital observation. Thrusters scorch the landscape, but resilient alien growth returns within days.

All systems function despite the ship's ninety-degree orientation relative to its familiar thrust layout. Naomi performs maintenance, distills creek water for reaction mass, and removes slow organisms exploring the PDC housings. The reactor recharges town batteries in exchange for beer and food, giving the fugitives a useful economic role. The Roci remains the only gunship on the planet and therefore both Naomi's real home and the unspoken force behind Freehold's cautious goodwill.

Appearance

A scarred Martian gunship resting horizontally beside a mountain creek, landing burns hidden by regrowth and its hull sheltered beneath a fifteen-meter canopy of floating pale-green vines.

Role

The Rocinante is the resistance's concealed planetary base, local power plant, bargaining leverage, and preserved route back into the wider war.

Relationships

Naomi Nagata — Naomi Nagata lives aboard, maintains its systems, fills its tanks, and uses its computers to analyze the Storm.
Alex Kamal — Alex Kamal uses its reactor to charge Freehold batteries and build rapport with the settlement.
