Lightbreaker

Prisoner transport · Former union vessel · Salvaged yacht · Semigovernmental courier vessel

The Lightbreaker's empty berth and priority-transfer code reveal to Naomi that Laconia has carried Holden beyond Medina and out of the planned prison break.

Story so far

The Lightbreaker is a three-generation-old yacht salvaged by a semigovernmental courier service and later impounded at Medina Station. Its efficient drive makes it suitable for a rapid imperial mission. Governor Santiago Singh assigns a crew from the Gathering Storm, confines James Holden aboard, and sends the vessel through the Laconia gate.

Two days later, Naomi Nagata includes the ship among twenty-one prospective evacuation vessels supplied by Saba. A zero berth number forces her to query docking records. The Lightbreaker has departed for Laconia under service code 1820-SKS, which Alex identifies from Martian service as priority prisoner transfer. The absent ship becomes the evidence that Holden is no longer inside Medina's jail and cannot be reached by the operation built to save him.

Appearance

A small, fast, aging yacht with an efficient Epstein drive, repurposed through salvage and courier service before conversion into a guarded Laconian prisoner transport.

Role

The Lightbreaker is the mobile prison whose recorded absence severs Naomi's Medina rescue plan from the man it was built around.
