Tori Byron

Tori · Medina gunship · Honor guard

Medina's only other available gunship challenges the alien Laconian flagship and is instantly reduced to incomprehensible debris.

Story so far

The Tori Byron is one of only two gunships present at Medina Station when Laconia announces its arrival. Onni Langstiver gives it the visible honor-guard position while the Rocinante waits in Medina's shadow. The Tori is expected to greet the visitors, demonstrate readiness, and rely on the hub rail guns if diplomacy fails.

When the vast Heart of the Tempest crosses the gate without stopping, the Tori orders it to halt and then moves to intercept. A final warning and target lock produce no visible response from the Laconian ship. In an instant the gunship vanishes, replaced by a sparkling cloud of matter so strange that Rocinante's sensors cannot classify it. Its destruction is the first unmistakable act of Laconia's arrival.

Appearance

A conventional human gunship stationed openly between Medina and Laconia gate; after the attack, nothing identifiable remains beyond a sparkling cloud of sensor-confounding matter.

Role

The Tori Byron is Medina's lead security vessel and the first demonstration that ordinary warships cannot safely confront Laconia's new technology.
