A vertiginous stone spine of griffin-nested mountains at the pole, home of the Valkyrie and seat of Queen Alia Snowsparrow.
The Valkyrie Spires are a twisting spine of mountain peaks thrust from the arctic plains by a Gold's Lovelock engine and fifty years of tectonic manipulation—dozens of stone spires woven together, mist-shrouded, griffins nesting on the peaks. Home of the Valkyrie and Ragnar's birthplace, the rock city is honeycombed with dim seal-oil-lit halls, griffin hangars sealed by ancient iron doors, blind branded slaves of conquered clans, and a cavernous throne room where Queen Alia Snowsparrow rules from a cushion set in a giant griffin's rib cage. Seven skeletons hang in chains from its high rock walls—heretics who preached Ragnar's return, whom Alia broke and set out as carrion.
Here Darrow brings the dead prince home and pleads his cause before the queen, who spurns him; and here Sefi, returning from Asgard with the corpses of the slain gods, decapitates her mother and crowns herself, calling the Valkyrie to war.
A ludicrous, mist-wreathed spine of corkscrewing stone peaks rising abruptly from arctic plains, griffins nesting on the summits; within, smoke-blackened halls of carved stone lit by seal-oil braziers, iron doors, and a giant throne room graven with the deeds of the clan.
The Obsidian Valkyrie's mountain stronghold and Ragnar's homeland; the seat of power Darrow must win to raise an army of the ice.
