Phobos

the Hive

Mars's larger moon, hollowed into a vast pincushion trade-hub called the Hive, where wealth towers over ash-lived wage slaves.

Story so far

Phobos—'fear,' child of love and war—is the larger of Mars's moons, a barren rock carved hollow and ringed by two colossal perpendicular dockyards that funnel helium-3 from Mars to the cosmosHaulers of the Core and Rim. Thirty million people crowd the Hive, a six-century jigsaw of towers built by raw economics without gravity: the wealthy Silvers and Golds inhabit the Needles at the tips, while contract wage-slaves and vagrants rot in the Hollows and maintenance levels below, ash-faced and disposable. It is riven by a street war between the Sons of Ares and the Syndicate, with Legion sweeps hunting rebels.

Here Darrow, Sevro, and the Howlers infiltrate Quicksilver's double-helix tower for Operation Black Market—to kidnap the Silver and crash the Society's economy.

Appearance

An oblong hollowed moon ringed by two vast dark dockyards, its rock perforated by six centuries of spiked towers—the gleaming Needles above, the gravity-less cage-slum Hollows within, grimy ash-grey maintenance levels between.

Role

The Society's Martian trade-hub and a battlefront of the Rising; setting of the Quicksilver kidnapping.
