character

Niobe

A weary Republic officer sharing Virginia's Phobos command burden, Niobe helps repel assaults and welcomes Victra's return with the joy of a battle briefly turned.

Story so far

Niobe is a Republic officer serving in the Hollows command center during the battle for Phobos. Alongside Screwface and Cadus Harnassus, she endures the stale, sleepless cycle of coffee, protein injections, and casualty reports while Virginia au Augustus directs a defense that is slowly being forced backward.

Twelve days after Lysander's landfall, Niobe wakes Virginia from a scant four hours of sleep to help turn back another assault. Later, her tangled bird's-nest hair and tears signal a different emergency: Victra has made it through from Sector One. Niobe kisses Virginia in relief and leads her through the cheering assembly area to see Victra, Pegasus Legion, the captive Cicero, and Ajax's head for herself.

Appearance

A tired Republic officer with bird's-nest hair tangled by long shifts in the operations room. Her exhaustion does not conceal the emotional openness with which she meets a rare piece of good news.

Role

Niobe is part of the practical command staff keeping the Hollows defense functioning through attrition.

Relationships

Virginia au Augustus — Virginia relies on Niobe as a command-room officer; Niobe brings her both the latest assault and the joy of Victra's return.
Victra au Julii — Victra's arrival gives Niobe a rare reason to cry with relief after twelve days of worsening reports.
