Harbingers

a Harbinger

Stealthy giant Ascomanni killers breach Europa from the sea, appearing among refugees in ghostly guises to butcher civilians before vanishing into the chaos.

Story so far

The Harbingers first appear at Heraklion during Europa's mass evacuation. One materializes amid a crowd in a shimmering concealment guise, a lean nearly eight-foot warrior naked except for a shark-head helm and curious fan-heeled boots. With twin blades as long as Lyria's legs, it cuts lowColor refugees apart in seconds, laughing before its camouflage hides it again.

Sigurd identifies the attacker as a Harbinger and believes it entered by swimming past the moon's sonar defenses. Its arrival changes the invasion's meaning for the Deep: Fá's force is not merely pressing from above but may already contain hidden killers inside the cities sheltering civilians. Whether the attacker is alone or one of many is unknown, but Sigurd's fear suggests the latter.

Appearance

Lean, nearly eight-foot giant warriors with leathery orangish skin, shark-head helmets, fan-heeled boots, and enormous paired blades. They can use shimmering concealment to appear suddenly among civilians and vanish after attacking.

Role

The Harbingers are Fá's stealth shock killers, carrying the invasion past Europa's perimeter and directly into its refugee population.

Relationships

Sigurd — Sigurd identifies the attacker as a Harbinger and recognizes the frightening implication that more may have penetrated Europa.
Lyria — Lyria witnesses the first Harbinger massacre while trying to begin her mission to Volga.
Cassius — Cassius draws razor and aegis after the attack, facing the threat as it turns a civilian station into a killing ground.
Volsung Fá — Volsung Fá's invading war brings the Harbingers into Europa, where their ability to bypass defenses makes them a new terror of his host.
