Atlas returns from Orpheus with Eidmi, reads Lysander's trap too late, and dies in Hangar 17B after exposing the weapon's genocidal power.
Atlas au Raa has shaped the war through Fá, Gorgons, secret plans, and the fear that made Lysander pliable. He returns to Lightbringer from Orpheus with roughly thirty wounded survivors from his force, a reinforced pack, and the exhaustion of a mission that has depleted the Gorgons by about eighty percent. He immediately recognizes that broken patterns—the Kinshield gone, Fá dead, Diomedes alive—have damaged his play, but he also sees opportunity in Darrow and Diomedes's attempt to recruit Lysander.
In Hangar 17B, Atlas questions Lysander with frightening speed and inference, using mud on Darrow's boots to dispatch a team toward the hidden granary. When Lysander admits the allies told him to kill Atlas, Atlas initially treats the apparent refusal as a useful way to hold them by the nose. Cassius then opens fire from a war titan. Atlas survives the opening fusillade inside a boiling pulse shield and battles Cassius with hasta and razor until the Morning Knight whips a blade around his throat. Before he is shot through the head by Lysander, Atlas names the pack's contents: Eidmi, Silenius's biological weapon capable of targeting any Color. Atlas is dead, but the weapon and the logic he taught Lysander survive him.
A lean, hard-faced Gold in black fatigues rather than armor, carrying a pulse shield and reinforced pack. At death his face is bloodied, scalp torn, leg dragging, and chest flayed; those wounds are not a living portrait state.
Atlas is the dead Fear Knight whose engineered war and recovered weapon leave Lysander with both a throne-path and a moral abyss.
