Captain Mcbride

McBride

The UNN Ravi captain who nearly attacks the Rocinante to recover Earth's diverted missiles, then stands down when Eros turns away from Earth.

Story so far

Captain McBride commands the UNN escort corvette Ravi during the Eros pursuit. She accepts James Holden's offer of cooperation when the asteroid becomes a shared threat, but UNN command later orders her to board the Rocinante and force it to restore the missiles whose guidance codes Holden and Naomi Nagata diverted.

McBride targets the Rocinante, maneuvers for an attack run, and fires PDC rounds when Holden refuses surrender. The stronger Martian gunship out-turns her, and Holden refuses to return fire despite acquiring a lock. When Eros becomes visible again and changes course away from Earth toward Venus, the immediate reason for the confrontation vanishes. McBride's restraint remains hard-won, but she does not turn the standoff into a killing fight.

Appearance

McBride is an older woman whose voice is controlled and unsentimental over a radio channel. The text does not yet describe her physical features or uniform in person.

Role

McBride represents lawful Earth authority under impossible orders, willing to fight Holden but not eager to turn a shared emergency into a needless warship duel.

Relationships

Ravi — McBride commands the Ravi and directs its attempt to board or force the Rocinante to surrender.
James Holden — McBride treats Holden as a dangerous criminal over the missile diversion, while he refuses to fire back unless she makes it unavoidable.
Eros — Eros's turn away from Earth removes the immediate crisis that had driven McBride toward an attack on the Rocinante.
