Talbot Leeds

the demolitions ship

A cramped improvised OPA demolition vessel carrying nuclear mines and Miller's small security team toward Eros.

Story so far

The Talbot Leeds is the rough, cramped ship assigned to carry Miller, Diogo, OPA security personnel, and megatons of fission mines toward Eros. Its crew spaces seem welded from smaller vessels, with acceleration couches stacked three deep and an air of old sweat, hot metal, and recent marijuana.

It departs Tycho on a thirteen-day high-g burn, planning to reach Eros ahead of the redirected Nauvoo. The mission is both simple and catastrophic: its crew will place enough nuclear material around the station to keep anyone from approaching its surface after the final strike, while living beside weapons that could annihilate them through one mistake.

Appearance

The Talbot Leeds looks crudely assembled from two smaller ships, with a torpedo-tube-sized obsolete airlock, cramped stacked couches, hot-metal interiors, and a functional rather than graceful demolition-ship layout.

Role

The Talbot Leeds is the vulnerable human advance party for the plan to deny Eros to every competing power.

Relationships

Miller — Miller rides the Talbot Leeds as security coordinator for the mine-laying operation.
Diogo — Diogo serves with the OPA crew and saves Miller the top acceleration couch for the long burn.
Eros — The Talbot Leeds is carrying the fission mines intended to make Eros's docks and surface unusable to would-be sample hunters.
