The unfinished Mormon generation ship commandeered by the OPA and redirected onto a sacrificial collision course with Eros.
The two-kilometer Nauvoo was built as an immense Mormon generation ship, its cathedral-like metal structure designed to carry a community through a century of sleep toward another sun. Fred Johnson now needs it for a radically different voyage: an impact trajectory that will push Eros sunward and, with fusion detonations, make the station too hot and radioactive to exploit.
Mormon technicians and supporters resist the seizure by chaining themselves across access paths and sabotaging the systems. Miller and Diogo lead OPA security in sedating and removing them without lethal force, then crews repair the sabotage and use tugs to pull the great ship clear of Tycho. Its engines will soon burn for Eros, changing a vessel of faith and colonization into a weapon of planetary-scale denial.
The Nauvoo is a two-kilometer-long generation ship of alloy girders, massive stacked levels, agricultural substrate, industrial waldoes, and the emerging grandeur of a cathedral built for interstellar travel.
The Nauvoo is the OPA's only available instrument large enough to redirect Eros and destroy the value of its protomolecule experiment.
