Seraphina

Seraphina au Raa · Little Hawk · the burning one

Romulus's grieving daughter, who counts her father's dying steps and coldly resists Lysander's push into her family's war.

Story so far

Seraphina au Raa endures her father Romulus's death rite in anguished guilt, recoiling from his farewell—'You don't have to die'—and refusing to understand his choice, walking away from the family across the dune. From her lonely perch she counts his final steps across the frozen waste, her voice rising as if to will him to the Dragon Tomb, until he falls ten steps short; she whispers 'Pulvis et umbra sumus' as he dies. Warned by her father not to let glory consume her as it did his brother, she carries her grief hard and cold.

When Lysander comes to the widowed Dido and pledges himself to their war, Seraphina scorns him—'there's no place for a Lune in our army'—guarding her family and her cause against the Lune heir even as her mother is swayed to accept him.

Appearance

A lean young Gold woman under twenty with a fighter's muscles, sleepy large gold eyes, a buzzed notched head and a curved cheek scar; in a kryll and scorosuit against the cold, grief-hardened and cold-eyed.
