The mutilated Obsidian, groomed and cultured, who has become a favorite of the Howler pack—and haunts the Minotaur's cell to hear him play.
'Tongueless,' the mutilated Obsidian Darrow took from Deepgrave, has settled into the Nessus and the Howlers. He has cut his hair short and trimmed a fine goatee, looking sophisticated—even cultured—in military fatigues, and has become a pack favorite through his skill in the galley (men ask few questions of a good cook). Keeping the warden's rescued terrier at his side, he makes daily 'conjugal visits' to sit cross-legged before Apollonius's cell, entranced by the Minotaur's phantom violin—gesturing to a tattoo of Bragi, the Norse god of music, and tapping ear and heart to say he wishes he could hear him play.
His elegant, accustomed-to-finer-things bearing and shaman's spirit-eyes deepen Darrow's suspicion that there is far more to how he ended up mutilated in an Omega cell than a warden's temper.
A lean Obsidian past fifty, thin, with a half-scalped indented hairline, now cut short with a fine trimmed goatee, dense tattoos including shaman's spirit-eyes and a harp-bearing Bragi; knotted hands with black caste crescents, his tongue gone, in trim military fatigues.
The Howlers' mysterious, cultured Obsidian recruit; a mute cook and music-lover whose true past nags at Darrow.
