character

Ratthi

Dr. Ratthi · Survey Academic Ratthi

Ratthi responds instantly when Murderbot asks for help, identifying the antique device that makes the refugee rescue possible.

Story so far

Ratthi’s open trust in Murderbot has made him a witness, defender, and ordinary friend throughout the Lutran investigation. While eating with Dr. Gurathin, he receives an unusually direct request from Murderbot—“I need help”—and reacts so sharply that he knocks over his chair.

Through drone video, Ratthi recognizes that the nearest historical equivalent to an EVAC suit aboard Pressy is a life-tender. His identification, combined with Gurathin’s precise shelf direction, lets Murderbot avoid a modern emergency suit whose transponder would reveal the covert approach. Though Murderbot cuts the connection before explaining, Ratthi’s knowledge makes the successful extraction possible.

Appearance

An adult male planetary biologist of unspecified features, skin tone, hair, and build, wearing clean practical survey clothing with an earnest, animated expression.

Role

Ratthi is the trusted civilian whom Murderbot can ask for specialized help without explaining the entire crisis.
